Pro Historia Polonorum Award
As part of the 4th Congress of International Researchers of Polish History that will be held in Kraków between 19 and 22 October 2022, the Pro Historia Polonorum Award for the best historical book on the history of Poland and Poles or the Central European region (including Polish history) published in a foreign publication and foreign language between 2017 and 2021 by researchers affiliated with foreign scientific institutions, will be awarded for the fourth time. Previous winners of the Award include Timothy Snyder, Antony Polonsky, and Robert Frost.

Only researchers holding at least a doctoral degree are eligible to apply. Submissions must include a brief substantive justification and a copy of the paper submitted (in any form). Papers must be submitted by 31 January 2022 using the submission
The Jury appointed by the Congress Organising Committee will select the winners of the competition in July 2022, whereas the presentation of the main prize, as well as the nominations for the prize and the (possible) honorary special prize for a foreign author for outstanding contributions to Polish history, will take place during the Congress’ opening ceremony on 19 October 2022.
Rules and Regulations of the Pro Historia Polonorum Award
1. Only original scientific books on the history of Poland and Poles or the Central European region
(including Polish history), published in foreign publications and a foreign language between 2017 and
2021 by researchers affiliated with foreign academic institutions may be submitted for the award
competition.
2. The Competition Jury is appointed by the Organising Committee of the 4th Congress of International
Researchers of Polish History. It includes:

3. Only researchers holding at least a doctoral degree are eligible to apply. Book must be submitted by 31
January 2022 using the submission form available here: https://forms.gle/VziNjUY9gxRs1ePs5. Short
justification and an electronic copy of the submitted book should be included. The submitted work may
also be sent in printed form to the following address: Stanisław Sroka, Dean of the Faculty of History of
the Jagiellonian University, ul. Gołębia 24, 31-007 Kraków, with the annotation “Pro Historia
Polonorum”.
4. The deadline for submissions is 31 January 2022.
5. The initial evaluation of all books submitted shall be conducted by the Jury Members at the request of
the Jury President:
6. Out of all books submitted, the Jury shall select between 5 and 10 that will be nominated for the award.
The books selected shall then be submitted for peer review.
7. Finally, the Jury shall select one out of all the nominated and peer-reviewed books and award the first
prize to its author.
8. The Jury may also award an honorary special award to a single foreign researcher for a lifetime of
outstanding achievements regarding Polish history.
9. The award ceremony, which will include presenting the first prize – cash and the Gallus Anonymus
statuette – to the winner, as well as diplomas to all researchers whose works had been nominated for the
award, will be held publicly during the Congress’ opening ceremony.
